This painting does a great job of giving a sense of motion. This is accomplished with the way the sail boat is veering, as though accelerating into a turn. Also, the artist intelligently placed the sail boat at the far end of the painting, giving the impression that it had traveled across the frame.

The bright red sail offers a striking contrast with the soft blues and earth tones that comprise its surroundings. The vivid reflection of the sail upon the waters beneath further intensifies the contrast.

There are several objects to keep your interest. Your eyes are first drawn to the red sail, but then you can also draw deeper into this painting toward the lighthouse and the trees in the background. The cloud formation is also full of details and beauty.
